TVA Medical, Inc. today announced several clinical updates involving its everlinQ™ endoAVF System, an innovative endovascular technique to create hemodialysis access without open surgery, with other potential clinical applications. The everlinQ endoAVF System has European CE Mark and Health Canada Medical Device License for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients who need hemodialysis, and commercialization has begun at select centers in Europe. When you peek into the University of Kansas Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, it probably appears to be an ordinary nursery full of tiny preemies. However, thanks to a $73,000 grant from Royal Charities, they are doing something groundbreaking for parents like Sam Last, a soldier deployed in Kuwait.
The hospital has installed what they call an “Angel Eye” into the each baby’s incubator. This way, parents who are separated from their child can check in on them whenever they like. For Sam, who is 7,000 miles away from his newborn baby girl Charlie, it means the world. (read more)

Ryan Macy had a vision for a workflow technology harnessing the power of wearable technology – specifically, Google Glass – that would improve health care.
There were just a few obstacles.
First, when it comes to Google Glass and similar wearables, “the platform is not at a place yet to be something you can build on top of,” Macy said. And once the startup decided to focus on the post-acute care market, it became clear wearables were too advanced a tool to introduce. In skilled-nursing facilities and similar settings, Macy said, “they barely have computers.” (read more)
